Pest control in Diepkloof depends on the kind of property: rats and cockroaches in older family homes and backyard rooms, bed bugs and fleas where many people share space, flies around busy shops and taverns, and termites in timber roofs and door frames. We inspect, treat what's actually there and explain the simple steps that stop it from coming back.
Diepkloof and its different parts
Diepkloof is one of Soweto's large, established townships, on its eastern side close to the Soweto Highway and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. The older zones are mostly four-roomed family houses, many extended over the years, with backyard rooms that are rented out. Diepkloof Extension has bigger, newer homes on larger stands, with garages and gardens. Along the main roads there are spaza shops, taverns, takeaways, salons and churches.
Each of these has its own pest pattern. That's why we don't sell one standard treatment for the whole area: what works for an Extension house with a lawn is different from what works for a yard with four rooms and shared toilets.
Older homes and backyard rooms
Rats are the most common complaint. Brown rats burrow under paving and around outside toilets and drains, and roof rats get into ceilings through gaps under the roof sheets. Lockable bait stations, placed where children and pets can't reach the bait, and closing the gaps they use, are what work. Our page on rat control in Soweto explains the method.
German cockroaches are common in kitchens and in backyard rooms where cooking and sleeping happen in one space. Gel bait placed into cracks, hinges and behind appliances clears them without needing to empty the room.
Bed bugs spread quickly where many people share rooms, beds or furniture, and between rooms in the same yard. They hide in mattress seams, bed frames and cracks in walls. Treatment has to cover every room in the yard at the same time and needs a follow-up visit, otherwise they move to the next room and come back.
Extension houses
Larger homes with lawns and gardens see more ants, harvester termites stripping lawns in dry winters, fleas where there are dogs, and rats in roofs and garages. Subterranean termites can damage door frames, built-in cupboards and roof timber, and a colony usually starts in the soil, sometimes around buried building rubble. Our termite control in Soweto page covers the signs and the treatment, which carries a 5-year guarantee and certificate.
Shops, taverns and takeaways
Food and drink businesses deal with cockroaches, flies and rodents all year. Regular treatments, lidded bins, and clearing the yard of empty crates and boxes reduce the pressure. For businesses that need it, we offer scheduled visits with a written service record.
Fleas and flies in summer
Fleas build up on dogs and cats and drop into the yard, the house and the bedding, and children often get bitten around the ankles. Treat the pets (ask your vet), the yard and the house at the same time. Flies breed in refuse and pet droppings; keeping bins closed and yards clean does more than any spray.
How a visit works
We start by asking where you've seen the problem and then look for ourselves: the kitchen, bedrooms, roof space if there's access, the yard, outside rooms, drains and the boundary wall. For yards with tenants, we'll ask the owner to let everyone know beforehand, so each room can be opened and prepared. You don't need to move out, and the products we use have no smell.
A mistake that costs families money
Buying strong poison from street sellers. Unlabelled pesticides sold in small bottles or packets are dangerous: you don't know what's in them, they poison pets and children, and many don't even work on the pest. Use registered products from a proper shop, or call someone who uses them.
A Diepkloof tip
Keep the area around outside toilets and drains clear and the drain covers in place. Broken or missing covers are the main way brown rats and American cockroaches get from the sewer into yards and homes.
What it costs and why
What you pay comes down to the pest and how many rooms or buildings we cover. A cockroach treatment in a kitchen is a small job. Bed bugs cost more because every room in the yard must be treated and we come back for a follow-up. Rodent work is priced on the bait stations required. Termites depend on how much of the house is affected. This page shows a guide "from" price, and the full list is on our Johannesburg price page. If it's a small problem you can handle with shop bait, we'll say so.
Diepkloof is covered by our Soweto pest control service, and nearby Orlando has its own page.

Questions we get asked
How much does pest control cost in Diepkloof?
It depends on the pest and the number of rooms. A kitchen cockroach treatment is at the low end, while bed bugs across several rooms cost more. Guide prices are on our prices page.
Can you treat all the backyard rooms at once?
Yes, and for bed bugs and cockroaches we recommend it. Treating one room lets the pests move next door and come back.
Is the treatment safe for small children?
Yes, used correctly. Keep children off treated surfaces until they're dry, and rat bait stays in locked boxes they can't open.
Do we need to sleep somewhere else after treatment?
No. You can sleep at home the same night once treated areas are dry. Only gas fumigation needs people to leave, and that's rarely needed in homes.
How do I know if it's bed bugs?
Look for small black spots on mattress seams, tiny brown bugs in bed frames, and itchy bites in a line, usually on arms, legs or shoulders after sleeping.
Do you work with spaza shops and taverns?
Yes. We treat shops, taverns and takeaways, and can set up regular visits with a written record for businesses that need it.
What should I do before you arrive?
Clear the floor and under the beds, put food away in sealed containers, and tell us where you've seen the pests. For bed bugs, wash bedding on a hot cycle.
