Pest control in Highveld, Centurion, splits between business parks and homes. Offices get mice in ceilings and cable runs, cockroaches in staff kitchens and flies at refuse areas; estates and complexes get ants, lawn termites and rodents in shared roofs. Combat Pest Control serves Highveld from Johannesburg, with scheduled contracts for businesses and once-off treatments for homes.
A suburb that's half business park
Highveld is best known for its techno park, one of Centurion's big office and technology hubs, with company offices, technology businesses and light industrial units. Around it are residential estates, townhouse complexes and family homes. Centurion's position between Johannesburg and Pretoria, with the N1 close by, makes it a popular place for businesses and commuters alike.
That mix means two different kinds of pest work. Offices need monitoring, records and discreet visits that don't disrupt staff. Homes and complexes need the usual Highveld treatments for ants, rodents and termites, with the extra complication of shared walls and common gardens.
Pests in Highveld offices
Mice in ceilings and cable runs
Office buildings have suspended ceilings, raised floors, cable trays and service ducts, all of which give mice warm, quiet places to nest. They feed on crumbs in desk drawers and kitchens and chew cables, which is a real risk in data rooms and server areas. We use lockable bait stations outside and in service areas, traps inside the building, and proofing advice. Our mouse control page explains why mice need a different approach from rats.
Cockroaches in kitchens and canteens
German cockroaches thrive in staff kitchens, canteens, coffee stations and around dishwashers and vending machines. We use gel baits in cracks and appliances, which are effective and can be applied without closing the kitchen.
Flies and refuse areas
Refuse areas and loading bays draw flies in summer, especially where food waste sits for days. We treat breeding sites and resting areas, and show you which bins, drains and dock doors need attention so the treatment lasts.
Pigeons
Flat office roofs, ledges and parking structures attract pigeons. Bird proofing with spikes, netting and sealing keeps them off and prevents droppings building up.
Pests in Highveld homes and complexes
In residential areas, ants are the most common complaint, especially in early summer when the rains start. Small black and brown house ants nest under paving and in garden beds and trail into kitchens. Ant baits that the workers carry back to the nest work far better than spraying the trail. See our page on ant control for more.
Harvester termites strip lawns in estates and complexes during the dry winter, and roof rats move into shared roof spaces in townhouses when it gets cold. German cockroaches spread between units through shared plumbing. For complexes, we recommend treating the whole site together.
Office pest control contracts
For businesses in the techno park and surrounding offices, we offer scheduled monitoring:
- numbered, lockable rodent bait stations around the outside of the building and in service areas;
- regular inspection and baiting in kitchens, canteens and refuse areas;
- a written service record for each visit, ready for audits, landlords and health inspections;
- visits timed outside office hours where that suits you.
Signs to watch for at work
Cleaning staff usually spot the first signs, so it helps to tell them what to look for. Mouse droppings are small and dark, like rice grains, and turn up in drawers, behind printers, under kitchen counters and along the edges of storerooms. Shredded paper or packaging in a cupboard is often a nest. Tiny dark specks in the corners of a kitchen cupboard, or a cockroach seen in daylight, point to a cockroach problem that's already well established. A smell of urine in a ceiling void or service duct is another clue. If any of these are reported, it's worth calling before the problem spreads to other floors.
The mistake offices make
Waiting until staff complain. By the time someone sees a mouse run across the floor or finds droppings in a drawer, there's usually been activity for weeks. Regular monitoring picks up the first signs and keeps treatment small.
A Highveld tip
Ask staff to keep food in sealed containers and clear their desks of snacks before the weekend. In open-plan offices, a weekend of crumbs on desks is enough to keep a family of mice fed and comfortable.
What it costs and why
For offices, cost depends on the size of the building, the number of bait stations and how often we visit. For homes, it depends on the pest and the size of the property. Complexes are quoted on the number of units and common areas. Harvester termites in a lawn are a contained job. Guide "from" prices are listed on our pest control pricing page, and we quote businesses after a site visit.
We work right across Centurion, and our Johannesburg pest control page covers every service we offer in Gauteng.
Combat Pest Control belongs to Jason van Heerden, who runs every part of it and has 25 years of pest control behind him. We're SAPCA registered and registered with the Department of Agriculture under Act 36, offer service within 24 hours, and give a 3-month guarantee on general treatments. Facilities managers and homeowners can call 084 200 2700, or WhatsApp us a picture of the droppings or damage.
Questions we get asked
How much does an office pest control contract cost in Highveld?
It depends on the size of the building, the number of bait stations and the visit frequency. We quote after a site visit; starting prices are on our price page.
Can you treat our office without disrupting staff?
Yes. We can visit early, after hours or over weekends, and use baits and targeted treatments.
Do you provide service records for audits?
Yes. Each scheduled visit is recorded, including what was checked and treated.
Are mice a risk to our server room?
Yes. Mice chew cables and nest in warm, quiet spaces. Monitoring stations near service areas pick up activity early.
Why are there ants in my kitchen every summer?
Ants move indoors looking for food and shelter when the rains start. Baiting lets workers carry the bait back and kill the colony.
Is it safe for staff to be in the office during a treatment?
Yes. Baits are placed in cracks and closed stations, and any sprayed areas just need to be avoided until dry, so work carries on as normal.
