Pest control in Rosslyn is mainly industrial: rodent monitoring around factories and warehouses, bird proofing on large roofs and loading bays, and fly and cockroach control in canteens and staff areas. Combat Pest Control services Rosslyn from Johannesburg with scheduled contracts, numbered bait stations, site plans and a written record of every visit.
Rosslyn's industrial character
Rosslyn is an industrial area on the north-western side of Tshwane, close to Akasia and Soshanguve, best known for vehicle manufacturing and the component suppliers, logistics yards and engineering firms that have grown up around it. Sites are large: production halls, warehouses with high racking, dispatch yards, workshops, offices and staff canteens, usually ringed by open land, fences and veld.
Big sites have big perimeters, and a long perimeter next to open grassland means constant rodent pressure from outside. Tall steel structures attract pigeons. Canteens and waste areas attract flies and cockroaches. And every one of these can affect product, equipment or staff.
What a Rosslyn pest programme covers
Rodent monitoring
Rats and mice chew cabling, insulation, packaging and stored goods, and they contaminate canteens and storerooms. A rodent programme on an industrial site has three rings: lockable, tamper-resistant bait stations along the outer fence and around each building's exterior, traps or monitoring points inside where bait isn't appropriate, and attention to doors, dock levellers and cable entries where rodents get in. Every station is numbered, marked on a site plan and checked at each visit, with activity recorded. Over time, that record shows exactly where pressure is coming from. Our rodent control programmes page explains the setup.
Birds and bird mites
Pigeons and other birds roost on roof trusses, beams, canopies and signage. Their droppings corrode steel, contaminate stock and make walkways slippery, and old nests release bird mites that bite staff. We remove nests and treat mites, then exclude birds with netting over open trusses and loading bays, spikes on ledges, and sealing of the gaps they use. See our bird proofing for the options on large buildings.
Canteens, kitchens and waste areas
Staff canteens are treated like any commercial kitchen: gel baits for German cockroaches in equipment and fittings, drain treatment for American cockroaches, and fly control around waste and loading areas. Good waste management, with closed skips, regular collection and clean bin areas, matters more than any spray.
Crawling insects and termites
Ants, spiders and crickets come in from the veld edge, and harvester termites strip grass verges and landscaping. Older timber pallets and stored wood on open ground can attract subterranean termites. We treat as needed and pre-treat soil for new building work on the site, with a certificate.
Records, audits and inspections
Manufacturers and their suppliers are audited regularly, and pest control is part of that. What auditors want to see is a current site plan, station records, the products used with their registration details, trend reports and evidence of corrective action. We provide that documentation as part of the contract, and can do entomological inspections and pest reports where a client or certification body asks for them.
How a contract starts
- A site survey with your facilities or safety manager, covering the perimeter, every building, canteens, waste areas and storage yards.
- A written proposal with a site plan, the number and position of stations, the visit frequency and any once-off work such as bird proofing.
- Installation of numbered stations and an initial treatment of any active areas.
- Scheduled visits with a service report each time, and a call-out within 24 hours if something flares up between visits.
Staff housing, guardhouses and offices on the same site are included where needed, so a problem in one part of the property doesn't keep reinfesting the rest.
Where industrial programmes fail
Stations that go missing. On a busy site, forklifts knock them over, cleaners move them, contractors bury them under material. Within months half the perimeter has gaps. We fix stations to walls or ground plates where possible, label them clearly and report any that are missing so they're replaced, not forgotten. A short briefing for supervisors helps a lot.
A Rosslyn tip
Keep a clear, mowed strip on both sides of the perimeter fence and nothing stored against the outside walls of buildings. Rodents travel along cover. Take the cover away at the boundary and the stations there do far more work.
What it costs and why
Industrial contracts are quoted on the size of the site, the number of stations, the number of buildings and canteens, and how often we visit, typically monthly or more often in high-risk areas. Bird proofing is quoted separately on area, height and access equipment. A small workshop is a very different cost from a large production site. This page shows a guide "from" price, and our pricing page explains the factors; for a site, we walk it and give a written proposal.
We also serve homes and businesses in Soshanguve and pest control in Akasia nearby, and our full range of services is on our pest control in Johannesburg page.
Combat Pest Control is owned and operated by Jason van Heerden, who has 25 years of pest control experience. We're registered with SAPCA and with the Department of Agriculture under Act 36 of 1947, and offer service within 24 hours, with a 3-month guarantee on general treatments. For a site survey, call 084 200 2700, or WhatsApp us photos of the problem area.
Questions we get asked
Do you service large industrial sites in Rosslyn?
Yes. We run scheduled pest control contracts for factories, warehouses and logistics sites, with numbered stations, site plans and written records.
What does an industrial pest control contract cost?
It's quoted on the site size, the number of stations and buildings, and how often we visit. We walk the site first and give you a written proposal. Our price guide shows starting prices for our services.
Can you provide documentation for audits?
Yes. We supply site plans, station records, products used, trend reports and corrective actions, and can do entomological inspections and pest reports on request.
How do you keep pigeons out of a high-roofed warehouse?
With netting across open trusses, spikes on ledges and sealing gaps, after removing nests and treating any bird mites. We quote on the area and access equipment needed.
Will your work interrupt production?
We schedule visits around shifts and production, and most monitoring work happens without stopping anything.
Is the rodent bait safe around staff and guard dogs?
Bait is kept in lockable, tamper-resistant stations that are fixed in place and labelled, out of reach of people and dogs.
