Pest control in Sebokeng covers homes, schools, churches and businesses, and the main pests are rats, cockroaches, bed bugs, flies and termites. Combat Pest Control serves Sebokeng and the wider Vaal from Johannesburg. We inspect, find what's attracting the pests, treat with registered products and lockable stations, and offer regular visits for schools and businesses that need them.

Sebokeng and the Vaal

Sebokeng is one of the largest townships in the Vaal Triangle, in Emfuleni, close to Evaton and Vanderbijlpark. It's organised in zones and is home to a large population, with family houses, extensions and backyard rooms, newer government-built homes, schools, clinics, churches, taxi ranks, shopping centres and countless small businesses. The Vaal has hot summers with heavy storms, cold winters, and plenty of open land and river and wetland areas around it.

An area this big has every type of pest pressure. Illegal dumping and open land feed rats. Busy food businesses feed cockroaches and flies. Shared yards spread bed bugs and fleas. And termites work quietly in older timber and dry ground.

Homes in Sebokeng

Rats

Rats breed in rubbish, dumping sites, long grass and rubble, and come into homes for food, especially in winter. Signs are droppings, chewed food packaging, gnawed doors and holes at the base of walls, and noise in the ceiling. We place lockable stations around the house where children and pets can't get to them, trap inside where needed, and show you which holes to close with cement or mesh. More on our approach is on the rat control page.

Cockroaches and bed bugs

German cockroaches live in kitchens and appliances; gel bait placed where they hide is the treatment that works. Bed bugs arrive in second-hand furniture, luggage and with visitors, and hide in mattress seams and bed frames. They need a thorough treatment of each bed and couch and a follow-up visit.

Termites

Harvester termites strip grass and bare yards in the dry months, and subterranean termites can reach door frames, roof timbers and wooden cupboards. We identify the type and treat accordingly, with a 5-year guarantee and certificate on termite work.

Schools, crèches and churches

Schools and crèches deal with rodents in kitchens and storerooms, cockroaches where meals are prepared, wasps under roofs, and occasionally bird problems in halls. Churches and halls often have pigeons in the roof and rodents in storerooms. We schedule treatments for times when the building is empty, use odourless products and keep all rodent bait in locked stations. For schools with feeding schemes, a regular service with a record of each visit shows inspectors that the kitchen is being looked after.

Food businesses and shops

Butcheries, takeaways, bakeries, taverns and spaza shops attract flies, cockroaches and rats. A monthly or regular service keeps them under control: gel baiting in kitchens, drain treatment, lockable rodent stations and fly control around waste areas. Our fly control page covers what works for food premises. Keeping stock off the floor and bins closed makes a huge difference.

Signs to look for at home

  • Droppings in the kitchen cupboards or on top of the ceiling boards
  • Food packets, soap or plastic bins with gnaw marks
  • Small brown cockroaches running when you switch on the light at night
  • Itchy bites in a row after sleeping, and dark spots on the mattress
  • Mud tubes on walls or soft, crumbly door frames
  • Bare patches in the yard with small holes and loose soil in winter

How we work

We start by looking at the whole property, including the ceiling where we can get in, the yard, drains and backyard rooms, and ask when the problem started and where you see it most. We explain what we found and what the treatment involves. For normal treatments you can stay at home; just keep children and animals away from the treated areas until they have dried. Where a second visit is needed, as it usually is for bed bugs and rats, we arrange it before we leave.

What people get wrong

Burning or dumping rubbish in open land next to the house. It feels like getting rid of the problem, but the dumping site becomes a rat nursery right on your doorstep. Use the municipal collection, keep bins closed, and if there's a dumping spot nearby, report it. Rats that live there will keep coming no matter how well you treat your house.

A Vaal tip

In winter, check the gap under your outside doors. A gap you can push a pencil under is enough for a mouse, and a little bigger lets in a rat. A strip of rubber or a brush seal costs very little and stops a lot of winter visitors.

What it costs and why

For homes, the price depends on the pest and the number of rooms: cockroaches in one house are a small job, bed bugs and rats take more work and usually a second visit. For schools, churches and businesses, we quote on the size of the building and how often we visit. There's a guide "from" price on this page, and our pest control price guide explains what goes into the cost.

We also serve Evaton and pest control in Vanderbijlpark, and all our services are on the pest control Johannesburg page.

Questions we get asked

Do you do pest control in Sebokeng?

Yes. We serve every part of Sebokeng and the Vaal from Johannesburg, with service within 24 hours.

How much does pest control cost for a school?

It depends on the size of the buildings, the kitchen and how often we visit. We inspect and give a written quote. Our price guide shows starting prices.

Can you treat while the children are at school?

We prefer to treat when the building is empty, such as after hours, weekends or holidays, so classrooms and kitchens are dry and ready when children return.

Why do rats keep coming back even after poison?

Because something nearby keeps feeding them, often a dumping site, open bins or a food business. Bait without removing the food source and closing the holes only works for a while.

Do you treat taverns and takeaways?

Yes. We offer regular services for food businesses with gel baiting, drain treatment, rodent stations and fly control.

Is your bait safe around children and dogs?

Yes. Rodent bait is locked inside tamper-resistant stations that children and pets cannot open.
