Pest control in Zenzele mostly means getting on top of rats, German cockroaches, bed bugs, flies and fleas, the pests that spread quickly between homes and backyard rooms on the West Rand. Combat Pest Control serves Zenzele, in the Randfontein area, from Johannesburg. We treat the whole stand and give you a clear plan to keep pests from returning.
About Zenzele and its pests
Zenzele is a township community on the West Rand, close to Randfontein. Homes are mostly small family houses, many with extensions and backyard rooms, on stands close to their neighbours. There is open veld and mining land in the wider area, and the climate is typical of the Highveld: hot, stormy summers and cold, dry winters.
That combination makes rats and indoor insects the main problems. Rats live in open ground, rubble and illegal dumping spots, and move into yards for food. Cockroaches and bed bugs spread between rooms and neighbouring homes. Flies build up around refuse in summer, and fleas breed where dogs sleep.
What you can do this week
- Close the bins. Keep refuse in a bin with a lid until collection day. Open bags feed rats, flies and stray dogs.
- Seal food. Put mealie meal, sugar and bread in sealed containers or tins. Cockroaches and mice cannot get into them.
- Fill the gaps. Steel wool and cement around pipes, and a strip of rubber under the door, keep rats and mice out.
- Clear rubble. Move bricks, old sheeting and wood away from the house walls, where rats and scorpions hide.
- Check second-hand furniture. Look at mattress seams, couch joints and the backs of fridges before you bring them in.
The pests and what we do
Rats
Brown rats burrow under walls, paving and rubble, and come inside to feed. Signs are droppings, burrows with smooth edges, gnawed food and noise at night. We place lockable bait stations along outside walls, where children and dogs cannot open them, and check them on follow-up visits. See our page on rat control across Johannesburg for more.
German cockroaches
These live in kitchen cupboards, stoves, fridges and electrical appliances. We apply gel bait in their hiding places, which they eat and carry back to others. It works far better than spray, which only drives them deeper or into the next room.
Bed bugs
Itchy bites in rows, blood spots on the sheets and tiny dark marks on mattress seams are the signs. We treat all the beds, couches and sleeping areas on the stand, including backyard rooms, and come back to deal with any eggs that hatch afterwards.
Flies
Flies breed in refuse, dog mess and rotting food, and on the Highveld they peak from November to March, when heat and rain speed up their breeding. Treating resting areas around the house helps, but clean bins and regular clearing of rubbish are what keep numbers down. Our fly control in Johannesburg page explains more, including for food businesses.
Fleas
Fleas breed in bare yards, under beds and where dogs sleep. We treat the house and yard, and the dogs need a vet-recommended product at the same time. Wash dog blankets and bedding in hot water on the day of the treatment, and vacuum carpets and the corners of rooms afterwards to lift eggs and larvae.
On the day of the visit
We check the main house, backyard rooms and the yard, then treat according to what we find. Our products are registered, odourless and do not stain. There is no need to move out; keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they are dry. For spaza shops, creches and food stalls, we can do regular visits with a service record.
The mistake to avoid
Buying cheap street poison for rats. These unlabelled products are often illegal farm chemicals that have killed children and pets in Gauteng townships. They also leave dead rats inside walls. Registered bait in locked stations is much safer and works better.
A Zenzele tip
Agree with your neighbours to treat on the same day. On closely built stands, cockroaches, bed bugs and rats move freely between yards, and treating together makes the results last far longer for everyone.
What it costs and why
The cost depends on the number of rooms and buildings on the stand, which pests we treat and how heavy the infestation is. A kitchen cockroach treatment is a small job. Bed bugs in several rooms, or rats across a yard, take longer and need follow-up. Look at the guide prices on our site, and we confirm the cost before starting.
We also work across Randfontein and in Mohlakeng, and the full list of services is on our pest control in Johannesburg page.

Questions we get asked
How much does pest control cost in Zenzele?
It depends on how many rooms and buildings we treat, the pest and how bad it is. A kitchen cockroach job is small. You can check the starting prices on our price page, and we tell you the full amount before any treatment.
Is the treatment safe for my children?
Yes, when used correctly. Keep children out of treated areas until surfaces are dry, and rat bait is locked inside stations.
Do I need to leave my house during treatment?
No. You can stay at home for normal treatments.
Can you treat the backyard rooms too?
Yes, and we recommend it, because cockroaches and bed bugs move between rooms on the same stand.
How do I know if I have rats or mice?
Rat droppings are about the size of a raisin; mouse droppings are the size of a rice grain. Rats also leave burrows in the yard.
Why should my neighbour treat too?
Pests move between closely built homes. If only one stand is treated, they often return from next door.
What should I prepare before you come?
Empty kitchen cupboards, strip beds if we are treating bed bugs and keep pets in a closed room.
