Pest control in Eldoraigne covers termites in homes and new extensions, cockroaches in townhouse complexes, rats in roofs during winter, ants before the summer rains, and spiders in garages and outside rooms. Combat Pest Control serves Eldoraigne from Johannesburg, and we start with an inspection so we know which pests are there and why.

About Eldoraigne

Eldoraigne is a well-established suburb on the western side of Centurion, near Wierdapark and Rooihuiskraal. It's mostly free-standing family homes, many of them renovated and extended over the years, with a good number of townhouse complexes and cluster developments too. Gardens are established, and Centurion's mild climate keeps insects active for a long season.

Renovation is a big part of Eldoraigne's pest story. Additions, new patios, paving and built-up flowerbeds all change how the house meets the soil, and that's where termites in particular take advantage.

Termites and the renovated home

When a house is first built, the soil under it is often treated against termites. Over time that treatment wears off, and every alteration breaks the treated zone a little more: a new room on fresh foundations, a patio laid against the wall, soil piled above the damp course in a flowerbed. Subterranean termites then come up through expansion joints, cracks or the join between old and new foundations.

Signs include mud tubes on walls or in cupboards, timber that sounds hollow when tapped, bubbling paint on skirting boards and winged termites coming out indoors after the first storms. If you're building an extension, a soil treatment before the new slab is cast protects it and stops it acting as a bridge into the old house. Our termite control for Gauteng homes page explains the treatment options.

Other pests we treat in Eldoraigne

Cockroaches in complexes

German cockroaches move between townhouse units through shared plumbing ducts and walls. A unit treated alone is often reinfested from next door, so we recommend body corporates treat whole blocks. Gel baits do most of the work.

Rats in the roof

Winter brings roof rats into ceilings through gaps at the eaves and where extensions meet the old roof. We bait outside in lockable stations, trap in the roof and show you the gaps to seal.

Ants

Ants appear in kitchens and bathrooms just before summer rain and during dry spells. Baits carried back to the nest are the reliable fix.

Spiders

Garages, outside rooms, storerooms and the corners of patios collect spiders, especially where there are plenty of insects to eat. Most are harmless, but nobody wants a garage full of webs, and a few species can give a painful bite. Treating the hiding spots and reducing the insects they feed on keeps them down. See our spider control page for more.

Fish moths

Fish moths live in cupboards, bookshelves and stored boxes, where they feed on paper and fabric. A general treatment of cupboards and storage areas clears them.

How we work

We inspect the outside of the house first, paying special attention to where extensions, patios and paving meet the walls, then the roof space and the inside. Our insect treatments are odourless and won't mark walls or furniture, and you won't need to move out. Simply keep pets and children away from treated surfaces until they're dry. Complexes can arrange whole-site treatments and scheduled visits.

A common mistake

Laying paving or building flowerbeds right up against the walls, above the damp course. It hides termite activity, keeps the soil damp against the foundation and breaks any treated zone. Keep a gap and keep soil levels below the damp course.

An Eldoraigne tip

If you've added a room or a patio in the last few years, look closely at the join between the old and new sections, inside and out. That joint is the most common place for termites to get into an extended house, and cracks there are worth sealing and checking every year.

What it costs and why

A general treatment for a house or townhouse is a modest job. Termite treatment depends on the perimeter of the house, how much paving needs drilling and how much timber is affected, and pre-treating an extension is priced on the slab area. Rodent work depends on the number of stations and visits. This page shows a guide "from" price, and you can see more on our prices page. We quote after the inspection.

We also work in Wierdapark and Rooihuiskraal, and the full range is on our Johannesburg pest control page.

Questions we get asked

How much does termite treatment cost in Eldoraigne?

It depends on the perimeter of the house, how much paving we need to drill through and how much timber is affected. We inspect and quote, and the guide price on this page shows where termite work starts.

Do I need termite treatment before building an extension?

It's strongly recommended. Treating the soil before the new slab is cast protects the extension and stops it becoming a bridge for termites into the old house.

Can you treat our whole townhouse complex?

Yes, and it's the best approach for cockroaches and rats, which move between units. We work with the body corporate to plan it.

Are the spiders in my garage dangerous?

Most are harmless. A few species can give a painful bite, so it's sensible to have a heavy spider problem treated, and to wear gloves when moving stored items.

Do I need to leave during a termite treatment?

No. Termite and normal insect treatments don't require you to leave. Keep children and pets away from treated areas until they're dry.

How long does a termite treatment last?

Our termite treatments come with a 5-year guarantee and a treatment certificate. Let us know if you renovate, as new building work can break the treated zone.
