Pest control in Brummeria is mainly about the garden and the ground: ants nesting under paving, spiders and the occasional scorpion among rocks and retaining walls, mice in roofs and garages in winter, termites in lawns and timber, and scheduled pest control for the offices nearby. Combat Pest Control serves Brummeria from Johannesburg, with an inspection before every treatment.
Getting to know Brummeria
Brummeria is a suburb in the east of Pretoria, near Silverton, Meyerspark and Lynnwood Ridge. It's home to the CSIR's large campus, and offices and research facilities sit alongside residential streets. The homes are mostly freestanding family houses, many built on sloping, rocky ground with retaining walls, stone features and established gardens, along with some townhouse complexes.
Rocky ground changes the pest picture. Stone walls, rockeries and loose rock are ideal for spiders, scorpions and ant nests. Slopes mean stormwater runs past foundations, keeping some soil moist enough for termites. And offices and campuses bring the commercial side: staff kitchens, canteens and records rooms that need regular service.
The main Brummeria pests
Ants
Ants are the most common call in summer. Brown house ants and pugnacious ants nest under paving, in rockeries and in lawn edges, then forage inside along skirting boards and kitchen counters. Spraying kills the workers you see and leaves the colony. We use ant baits that workers take back to the nest, where they reach the queen. Read our ant control method for more.
Spiders and scorpions
Retaining walls, stone features and garden lights attract spiders, and garages and outside rooms collect them in quiet corners. Sac spiders and the occasional button spider are the ones to take seriously. Scorpions shelter under rocks and come in under doors on hot evenings. We treat harbourage around the house and advise on reducing it. See spider control around homes and gardens.
Mice and rats
When the cold arrives, mice move into roofs, garages and kitchen units. Rats are drawn by compost, bird feeders and pet food. Lockable bait stations and sealing the gaps under eaves and garage doors keep them out.
Termites
Harvester termites strip lawns in the dry months, and subterranean termites can reach door frames and skirting boards where moisture collects along foundations, often on the uphill side of a sloping stand.
Wasps
Paper wasps nest under eaves and in stone walls in spring and summer.
Signs to look out for
- Ant trails along the kitchen counter or skirting boards, especially just before rain
- Webs and egg sacs in garage corners, behind outdoor furniture and around garden lights
- Small droppings in the roof space or behind the stove once winter starts
- Bare, sandy patches with cut grass in the lawn during the dry months
- Mud tubes climbing a foundation wall or appearing inside a built-in cupboard
The Brummeria year
Ants and wasps wake up first, in September and October. The first heavy storms bring flying termites, and midsummer is when spiders and scorpions are most active at night. From April, mice look for warm roofs and garages. The dry winter belongs to the harvester termites, which is also the best time to plan treatments for the season ahead.
Offices, campuses and complexes
Office buildings and research facilities do best with scheduled visits: rodent monitoring with lockable stations, cockroach control in kitchens and canteens, and service records for every visit. Complexes benefit from treating all units and the common gardens together. We work around business hours where needed.
How we work
For homes, we inspect the garden, rockeries and retaining walls as well as the house, because that's where Brummeria's pests start. Treatments are odourless and won't mark floors or furniture, and you can stay home throughout; once the product has dried, kids and pets can go back onto treated areas.
Combat Pest Control is owned and run by Jason van Heerden and has 25 years of experience. We are SAPCA registered and registered with the Department of Agriculture under Act 36. Service is available within 24 hours, and our general treatments carry a 3-month guarantee.
A common misunderstanding
Treating spiders with a quick indoor spray. Most of the spiders indoors come from outside, attracted by insects gathering at outside lights. Treating the outside walls, moving lights away from doors or switching to yellow bulbs cuts the insects, and the spiders follow.
A Brummeria tip
If your house sits on a slope, check the uphill side after summer storms. Water pooling against the foundation there softens the soil and attracts termites and ants. Fixing the drainage on that side helps more than any treatment.
What it costs and why
Cost depends on the pest, the size of the property and how much garden and rockery needs treating. Ants or spiders around a family home is a modest job. Termite treatment costs more because of the soil work. Offices are priced as monitoring contracts based on the size of the building and the frequency of visits. Each page shows a guide "from" price, and the Gauteng pest control price page explains the cost factors.
Brummeria borders Meyerspark and Lynnwood Ridge, and the rest of our services are on our pest control services page.

Questions we get asked
How much does pest control cost in Brummeria?
For a home, cost depends on the pest and the size of the house and garden. Offices are priced on the building and visit frequency. We confirm the price after inspecting.
How do I get rid of ants for good?
Bait the colony rather than spraying the trail. Workers carry the bait back to the nest, where it reaches the queen.
Which spiders in Brummeria are dangerous?
Most garden spiders are harmless. Sac spiders and button spiders can give painful or serious bites, so treat any found indoors with care.
Can you set up a pest contract for our office?
Yes. We set up scheduled visits with bait stations, kitchen treatments and a service record for every visit.
Is the treatment safe for my cat?
Yes. Once treated surfaces are dry, pets can use them again, and rodent bait stays inside lockable stations.
Do you guarantee the treatment?
Yes. General treatments carry a 3-month guarantee. If the treated pest comes back in that time, we come back.
