- Also known as the Bont Legged Tick (Amblyomma hebraeum), these ticks are Hard Ticks and frequent South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana and Mozambique. The female ticks scutum is dappled but the alloscutum is solid black in color. The alloscutum in both sexes is fringed by prominent festoons that are clearly visible. The legs are reddish-brown, and a little paler at the joints. This tick is mainly known to carry Heartwater disease that usually affect cattle such as sheep, goats, antelope, and buffalo.
